Life can be busy and fast-paced. It’s hard to find a moment to slow down and find some quiet time as a mum. Even when a quiet moment presents itself, you don’t know what to do with it but find yourself looking at the next thing down your long, never-ending to-do list.
Note to self:
You are worth the quiet time
You are worth the time to slow down and do absolutely nothing
You are worth that cheeky takeaway or glass of wine without any self-judgement
You are worth a night of just doing ‘you’ in whatever way that means
You are worth
It
In my household, we have a board in the kitchen where we regularly write motivational quotes so that every day when making a cuppa and waiting for the kettle to boil, we can feel pumped up to be more than just our routine.
It’s hard to see beyond the day-to-day but that’s when incredible things do happen, and it’s all from what we say to ourselves about us. Self-talk is a real thing.
I personally have struggled at times to speak positively to myself although I’m so positive to others with ease. You may think you’re being kind to yourself but stop and listen closer. Are you telling yourself what’s not possible or are you excitingly saying that nothing is impossible!
This reminds me of many years ago when lounging in the kitchen the next morning after a night out, a friend’s cousin spoke enthusiastically about this thing called manifestation. That was a long time ago and there is so much out there now on this topic that I had to stop and listen. I spoke to That Girl Blogs about manifestation in my blog How to start a manifestation journal [Interview].
Here are five things I currently love to fill my quiet time with:
- Listening to that album – I used to be obsessed with music and sometimes I feel so out of touch with it as I don’t make as much time for it these days. Plus, the days of artists whose album I can’t wait to sit down and listen to or drive to are far and few between. Either that or I’m really picky! However when I do have a quiet moment, I’ve been enjoying listening to an album from start to finish.
I’m currently enjoying listening to… Beyonce’s Renaissance

- Blogging – I think you could have guessed this one. I’ve always loved to write and have kept umpteen amounts of journals where I’ve jotted thoughts down, stories, poems etc. Blogging to me is a sort of therapy as I’m able to share how I’m feeling and what is energising me while connecting with others.
I’m currently geeking out on…17th Avenue Tutorials on Genesis Designs

- Surfing the internet – Really? I know this sounds pretty lame but I love virtual window shopping, and right now we’re decorating and trying to make our house into a home. I love a moment of pinning on Pinterest or looking at things that I’d love to buy for my house (even if I can’t afford them…yet!).
I’m currently dreaming of… 100% Bamboo Panda Bedding set

- Taking a bath while listening to a podcast – this duo is like my go-to for a relaxed evening. Add to that some candles in the bathroom and I’m all game. Depending on the podcast I’m either laughing out loud or deep in thought.
I’m currently listening to…Black Women Working

- Reading – I am an avid reader or I once was. I’ve found it hard over the last year since becoming a mum to get my reading mojo back. I talk about some tips that have helped me in 5 ways to find time to read as a busy mum. I now truly understand mum friends who would say I don’t have time to read, I really couldn’t understand it back then! I have found that going with whatever I fancy is the best way and not to set myself unachievable reads. Let’s face it, after a long day once your baby is down in bed, a deep and intense read might not be the easiest thing.
