Candles are more than a source of warmth and light. Today, candles are used to support our wellbeing and to add style to our homes.
When you burn a candle, there are a multitude of benefits which I’ll explore in this blog.
However, I’m interested in knowing what your earliest memory of a candle was? Was it on a birthday cake or candles bought by a family member or your own immediate family?
I’m not sure when mine exactly started but I know when my sudden excitement began which I share in 5 sensational scents to make your home smell sooo good
It’s when my love for scents took off and I started to explore more ways to get incredible aromas into my space.
Many of the reasons why I became obsessed with candles can be linked to their benefits below so let’s get into them:
1. Adds ambience
Candles can be used to enhance the atmosphere of a room. Their warm glow can create a cosy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for a romantic evening or a moment of relaxation. Additionally, they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colours, making it easy to find the perfect candle to complement your decor or style.
I personally enjoy lighting a candle in the evening when settling down into a tv series or even to write this blog.
2. Improves sleep
Burning a candle in your room that has certain scents such as lavender and chamomile can aid sleep. The warm soft glow of the candle can also provide a calming environment and promote a restful night’s sleep.
I love seeing the flickering of a candle in my bedroom. It’s so inviting and there’s something quite meditative about candles. Perhaps its the primitive nature of a naked flame.
3. Boosts your mood
Aromatherapy candles use essential oils which have unique properties including oils that are invigorating and energy boosting as found in citrus oils, as well as rosemary or peppermint oils that can promote focus and concentration.
Therefore, lighting a candle while working can help your productivity and is something I’ve done and have felt a lot more relaxed afterwards.
4. Reduces stress
I’ve mentioned how they can be used to aid sleep so it should come as no surprise that they are brilliant at reducing stress overall.
The amber glow and wafting gorgeous scents can help reduce stress levels, which in turn can lower your blood pressure, reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being.
That’s why you’ll often find candles used in practices such as yoga, meditation or spas/massage therapy rooms.
They not only create a peaceful environment but also help to relax you at the same time.
5. Adds style
It’s true that there are hundreds of candles out there. However, these days candles are as much a mark of who you are as your bag or the type of car you drive.
There are candles fetching in excess of £500. Now that’s an expensive burn but it’s because it’s as much about style as it is fragrance.
These high end candles pack a punch on both ends. They are like ornaments in your home and for many, ornaments they can use after the burning of the candle is over opting to use them to hold cotton wool balls or ear buds. Pretty holders for your bathroom.
Candles can also be a reflection of you whether that’s your floral obsession or a more woody scent. It’s like the perfume you’ve been wearing for years, there are some candle brands you just can’t break up with.
So whatever price point you get in at, there’s a candle for you.
And with the wide range of options available, you can see why it’s often hard to find a candle you may like in the first place, so what, if any are your go to’s?
